Rosedale Rosedale Abbey is a small village of about 300 people nestling in the North York Moors National Park, but 150 years ago it was a thriving mining village with a much larger population. Medieval Rosedale had a priory but only a staircase is left of the abbey in the village today. Modern Rosedale has a hotel, two pubs, a school, a church, a camping and caravan site, and numerous bed and breakfast facilities. It is a popular tourist destination for walkers, cyclists and caravaners. The kilns in Rosedale are on the west side of the valley. The calcine in the iron ore was burnt off before loading on the railway to be sent to Teesside.
