All the soundfiles in the archive are accessible through the links above. In addition, by navigating to the individual village or region websites you can access the soundfiles relevant to that area.
The project has recorded many different groups in the area including the Husthwaite school choir, the church choir, two ceilidh bands, delginis and byland rigg, as well as personal interviews with Peter Dick the potter (Coxwold Pottery in addition there are local stories such as the battle of byland, the best landlord in England and a ghost story based on the surviving fragements of original tales in Latin from Byland Abbey.
Soundfiles are being added on a regular basis. Most recordings are three to four minutes long with a few more substantial pieces.If anything is of particular interest please contact us as a CD can be prepared for you.
All the soundfiles given here are in a compressed form (MP3) to reduce downloading time and storage space. Full length and full resolution copies of these files are available on CD..
There are currently three regions available. These are Coxwoldshire (Sounds around Byland), Terrington and Rosedale.
The different types of soundfile are ambient, song, dialect, stories, poems and music.
Descriptions refer to the name of the song/poem/music or the subject of an ambient or dialect file.
